                                        OFFICIAL 3 on 3 Rules

Divisions
Male and female divisions will be created based on the guidelines above. Grade is determined based on the 2011 – 2012 school year.

Note: Tournament officials reserve the right to combine or modify divisions if necessary.

Note: Team uniforms or like colored clothing on the day of the competition is encouraged.

Eligibility
Each team must have a minimum of three (3) players and a maximum of four (4) players on their roster and be registered as a team by the official entry deadline.  Players may appear on only one (1) team roster for this tournament. Any player appearing on more than one (1) team roster will be automatically disqualified from participation in this tournament.  As a general rule, teams are split into male and female divisions by considering the average grade or age and experience of the players. Co-ed teams will automatically be scheduled in a male division using this same criteria. Teams having players in multiple grades will be placed in the division of the player with the highest grade level.

Game Regulations
All games may start and be completed with any number of players (1-4). Both teams will warm-up at the same time prior to the start of the game. Teams must be at their court at the scheduled game time, even if games are running behind for any reason. The players are ultimately responsible for obtaining accurate scheduling information and being at their court to play when their game is to begin. NOTE: We suggest that you be at your court 5 minutes before the scheduled game time and stay there until your game is played. Please do NOT Dunk during warm-ups!  Any participants registered to play in the tournament observed hanging on the rim at any time may be dismissed from the tournament. Entry fee will not be refunded.

Game Rules
REFEREE/OFFICIAL SCOREKEEPER
Any question, complaints, or comments shall be taken up with the Referee of that court. Only the team captain may be the spokesperson for their team. Higher authority cannot change the judgment decisions of the Referee. Only questions concerning rule interpretation or player eligibility are appealable. Once play resumes after a disagreement or appeal, the decision is considered to be final. No further appeals will be allowed on that incident.

SCHEDULING and GAME LENGTH
The official time will be under the jurisdiction of the Official Scorekeeper. The “clock” will be stopped only during timeouts and/or injury.

Games will be played to 11 points, win by 2, up to a maximum of 17 points (ie…15-13, 14-16, 15-17) OR for 15 minutes whichever comes first. The team leading at the end of the 15 minutes will be declared the winner unless the score exceeds the previous rule. If the game is tied after 15 minutes of play and no team has reached the required number of points to win the game, the Official will flip a coin to determine team possession. The first team to score will win the game….sudden death.

SCORING
A field goal is worth 1 point. A successful goal from behind the designated line is worth 2 points. The player shooting must have both feet completely behind the line when initiating the attempt. Free throws are worth 1 point.

FOULS AND VIOLATIONS
In ALL Divisions Referee will call all violations when there is a discrepancy amongst the players.  In all divisions players can call their own fouls as well. The player fouled is responsible for making the call. In the case of an obvious miscall, the Official may change the call at their discretion.
            1.   If the basket is missed and the player is fouled – the player receives one free throw. A make will be 1 point and possession will go to the
                  non-shooting team.
            2. A miss will be no points and the possession will go to the non-shooting team.
            3. If the basket is made and the player is fouled – count the basket and the player receives one free throw. A possession will go to the
                non-shooting team.

NOTE: On shooting fouls only one (1) or (2) free-throws will be awarded to the fouled player, depending on where the shot was attempted from behind the 2 point line will result in two (2) free throws. All free throws are dead balls. All intentional or flagrant fouls will be counted as a team foul. Each player has 5 personal fouls to commit per game. There will be no 1 and 1 free throw situations

FLAGRANT FOULS / TECHNICAL FOULS
        1. The Referee will call all flagrant/technical fouls.
        2. Definition: A contact foul intended to hurt an opponent, fan, or Referee; or a non-contact foul involving vulgar or verbally abusive behavior.
        3. Penalty: Two (2) free throws from the free throw line for (1) point each. Any team member on the court can shoot the penalty shot.
        4. The offended team will retain possession of the ball whether the shots are made or missed.
        5. One flagrant foul will result in the player being automatically ejected from the game.
        6. Two flagrant fouls will result in the player being automatically ejected from the tournament.
        7. Fighting and/or throwing a punch is a flagrant foul and will not be tolerated under ANY circumstances.
        8. Foul shots will be awarded as described and will result in immediate dismissal of the player(s) and/or team(s) from the tournament without
            refund.

LIVEBALL/DEAD BALL/POSSESSION
1. All jump balls go to the defensive team.
2. The ball must be“taken back” or “cleared” to the marked line on the court on every change of possession. “Taking back” means both feet and the ball behind the take back line. Violation occurs only if a basket is made by the other team. If the ball is not “taken back” and then advanced, any other violation, common foul, intentional foul, offensive foul, flagrant or technical foul called by the official will be honored. Exception: If a player is fouled in the act of shooting and makes the basket prior to properly “taking it back” the foul will be disregarded and no points will be awarded. Possession is given to the defense. After all successful shots, the ball must be checked by the defense and passed in. The offensive must pass the all in without dribbling or shooting until ball is successfully passed in.

TIME-OUT & SUBSTITUTIONS
1. Each team is allowed two (2) 30 second time outs per game.
2. Player substitution is permitted during any dead ball situation.

FIVE SECOND RULE
A player shall not remain for five (5) seconds in the free-throw lane. Allowance shall be made for a player who, having been in the restricted area for less than three seconds dribbles in or moves to try for goal. The count shall not begin or it shall be terminated during an interrupted dribble.

DOUBLE FOULS
In the case of a double foul, because no advantage is gained the offensive team will retain possession.
